To all Society
Members,
I wish you all a warm and healthy Summer – whether you are here in
Florida or have returned to your Summer havens in the North.
Since my last newsletter we had a very nice Tartan Day Dinner at the
English Pub in Naples, at which twenty two members attended to
celebrate not only Tartan Day ( April 6th ) but also the fact that
the month of April in Florida had been declared Scottish Heritage
Month by our Governor Charlie Crist.
Scottish Heritage Month is intended to remind us all and to remember
the tremendous input of those of Scottish heritage at the time of
the creation of our great country, and in particular to highlight
that our own Declaration of Independence had its origins in the
Declaration of Arbroath – The Scottish Declaration of Independence
of 1320.
We have now created a small Marketing Group within the Society to be
overseen by your Vice-President David Wallace, and it is hoped that
they will continue to work throughout the Summer to produce and
design and suggest various ways by which the Society could benefit
by the use of specifically directed and sustained advertising and
marketing. We will look forward to learning of the outcome of their
efforts in the Fall.
Your Board would like to hear from our members if there are any
ideas which might enable more of our members to attend our main
functions such as the St Andrews Ball in November or our Burns
Supper in January (particularly those who might have travel issues,
or who might prefer to attend these functions as part of a known
group of attendees rather than as an individual). Society actually
means the fellowship of like minded persons and perhaps we could do
more in this special regard. We hope in the near future to appoint a
person within our Society to look into and co-ordinate any useful
ideas that might emerge in this regard.
Your President wishes you all a happy, healthy and enjoyable Summer!
Lang may your lum reek
Wi ither folks coal”
Your President
David J Webster
